The world is a pretty crazy place, (some places crazier than others) with some of the worlds strangest laws! I have put together a list of some of the strangest laws i could find. Some are funny, some ridiculous but still considered the law.
Here are 10 of the worlds strangest laws –
1 Calling someone a slut in Oklahoma. Created in 1910, the law was printed as “If any person shall orally or otherwise, falsely and maliciously or falsely and wantonly impute to any female, married or unmarried, a want of chastity, he shall be deemed guilty of slander, and upon conviction shall be fined not less than twenty-five dollars nor more than five hundred dollars, or by imprisonment in the county jail not less than thirty days nor more than ninety days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.”
2 Crushing a can of beer in your bosom is against the law in Western Australia! With a hefty fine of $1000 you won’t want to make that mistake. Who knew that was even a thing??
3 Forgetting to close a gate behind you in Nevada. You will be punished accordingly so don’t forget that when passing through a field or anywhere for that matter!
4 Teaching a monkey to smoke in South Bend, Indiana. You have to laugh, this is a funny one. In 1924, a chimpanzee in South Bend was found guilty of smoking a cigarette and fined $5. Or at least its owner was. This has cracked down on smoking monkeys big-time, LOL.
5 Wearing heels in Greece at famous ancient monuments. Authorities put the ban in place in 2009, since sharp-soled shoes were adding to the wear and tear of national treasures.
6 Wearing flip-flops, clogs or any noisy footwear in Capris, italy. Banned in order to “protect public security”. Bizarre!
7 Cursing whilst being naked, releasing balloons in a public park in Toronto. I am guessing this has happened before for it to be outlawed. It is pretty specific eh? Haaa.
8 Being overweight in Japan. Doctors and local governments must now measure the waistlines of Japanese people between the ages of 40 and 74 as part of their annual checkups. According to the International Diabetes guidelines, their waists should not exceed 33.5 inches for men and 35.4 inches for women. They are put on a program and assessed every 6 months.
9 Not visiting your parents in China. The “Protection of the Rights and Interests of Elderly People” brought in in 2013, makes it illegal to avoid your parents. “Those who live far away from parents should go home often” according to the law. Fair enough!
10 Dying in Sarpourenx, France. “Offenders will be severely punished” according to the mayor in 2008! Wow, so unless you own a burial plot you had better not go and die, or else face severe punishment. Wonder what that would entail….LOL.
So those are my fave 10 of the worlds strangest laws. There are plenty more out there but these were the ones that amused me the most!
