TREND WATCH: CODE RED

Although it pains me that the summer hols are almost at an end (how fast did those weeks fly by??!!)… I can’t help but get excited about Autumn and all the gorgeous new clothes and accessories bursting out of the glossy / online magazines and social media pages.

I love the change in seasons – coats, knits, boots and gorgeous autumnal colours are something I look forward to every year, along with dark evenings, roaring fires, hearty dinners and Strictly!!!

So here’s my first look at the trends for AW17.

One of the key colours for the coming season is red. But not just any red… so-called ‘power’ red!

I read somewhere that red often becomes a prominent fashion colour after a period of social/political/economic unrest – as it is reactionary, positive and empowering. So its dominance on the AW17 catwalks is perhaps no coincidence, given the various turmoils across the globe.

Literally top-to-toe red is the way to go for those bold enough to carry it off. Or clashing red with pink, berry and even lilac tones will be a key look for the new season.

Here’s how these looks translate from the catwalks to the street (images from Pinterest):

As much as I love bold colours, I am slightly wary of red… I tend to colour quite easily and so the last thing I want to do is reflect more rosy tones to my cheeks! The key is finding the right tone to suit me… and I’m still learning!

So a dress, top or jacket in block red might not be my first choice, but I’m keen to dip in to the trend with a pair of red trousers or boots!

I love these high-waisted red trousers from La Redoute. I would wear them with a white shirt or a simple, grey sweater. But I also love the high-low look of teaming smart trews with a slogan or retro Tshirt and a black tuxedo-style blazer.

These tassle, kick-flare trousers from Top Shop are fun, especially for a night out! I would weat them with black, flat mules and a statement black top.

Top Shop £39

There are lots of red boots around right now. I like these suede ones from Top Shop; they would look great with a floral dress or cropped jeans.

So how do you feel about embracing this trend? Do you already have much red in your wardrobe that you can dig out for the new season? What about clashing it with pink or lilac? Or even going head-to-toe? As always I love to hear your feedback, so please leave a comment below.
