Five Ways to Improve Your Home by Kristy Jones
Keeping your home clean and orderly is a mission for homeowners. Aside from this, one has to ensure that the home’s value is kept if not increased. Improving one’s home is often a necessity in order to keep the home in a sellable form all the time.
However, there is no rocket science involved in improving your home. You just have to use the KISS method: Keep It Simple, Stupid. This design method has been around since the ‘60s and it’s applicable to most things, even in improving your home.
Before you start
Before you jump right in, you need to remember the two basic tenets of home improvement. The first is that you should never spend more than what you have. Have a budget for every home improvement that you have. Next, you need to make sure that every improvement and job is done in a professional manner. Don’t DIY everything in your home. It’s still best to invest in professional work, especially when you want to sell your home at a higher price. Having the receipts and proof of professional work done will definitely add up to your property’s value.
How to improve your home
In improving your home, you don’t need a complicated formula to start. Here are some simple yet effective ways to improve your home and increase its value all in one go:
- Declutter your home. It seems really simple but not quite done too often at home. As you start going about with your days and years at home, it can become too easy to accumulate stuff. To improve your home, just clear out the clutter in your home. Often, you don’t need to do pricey renovations or repairs to make your home look good. A simple decluttering and cleanliness can drastically improve your daily home life. Try downsizing the number of furniture in your home and only keep those that you actually use and need. This also applies to your trinkets and other collections.
- Think of curb appeal. First impressions last. So, make it a point to impress people as they drive up to your home. It pays to enhance your exterior space to make your property look good. You can add potted plants along the walkway. Landscape your front garden and enhance the walk from the car to your entry.
- Convert and extend. An extra space in your home is worth the investment. This also translates to extra profit when done just right. You can extend your home to build a loft, as long as it fits with your budget. Converting an extra space in your home for an extra bedroom is also a great addition. Just make sure that you add en-suite features as these are what most buyers are looking for.
- Makeover your kitchen and bath. The two most important parts of your home are the kitchen and bath. Improvements in the kitchen and bathroom can add to your home’s value by 7%. If you don’t have enough budget yet for a renovation, you can start by putting a fresh coat of paint. A neutral palette can add class to your space and can be a blank canvass as you start working on your kitchen and bathroom.
- Add plants and/or art. Plants and artwork can be strategic additions to your home. Plant life can affect your mood and the total ambiance in any space. Having a good amount of light coming in plus some plants can give an extra wellness boost to your home. Art can also add a cool ambiance without the commitment needed in maintaining plants. Just make sure your art pieces match the overall style in your space. You can mix up both your plants and art depending on the vibe that you’re going for.
