Princess Diana was a big fan of polka dots. Given the recent 20-year anniversary of her untimely death, this post is a little hommage to her (sorry – indulge me here!!!)

As a child, I used to carefully cut out images of Lady Di in her many glamorous outfits – the one-shouldered evening gowns, glittering tiaras, coordinated day suits & hats, even her casual, country attire – and stick them in scrap books. I followed her every fashion move. I literally stalked her. My Grandma was on-side and used to save her newspaper and magazine cuttings for me.
Anyone else do that???

As I am sure Diana did, I love the quirky, fun feel of polka dots. Especially oversized polka dots that were a key feature in Loewe’s AW17 collection (main image). But they also have an air of elegance about them – remember the dress Julia Roberts wore to the Polo in Pretty Woman?
Polka dots are a current favourite trend of mine, but I am trying to be restrained with my spending right now…
Luckily I already have a polka dot dress in my wardrobe; one that I bought in the M&S sale earlier this year – you may remember me having a dilemma over it in this post.

I am so glad that I did purchase it in the end! One of the reasons I hesitated was that I only saw it as a dress for formal occasions (of which I have few.) But now I see it in a more versatile light. For example it will work over jeans… and playing around with accessories can give it a slightly different, more edgy look.
So given that I am (sort of) observing no-spend-september, I decided to have a little peruse on eBay and came up trumps winning two vintage polka dot blouses.
The first is a yellow and black vintage blouse by Jaeger, which set me back £7.

The second – I didn’t intend to win two bids!! – is this polka dot pussy-bow blouse from St Michael. I won this for the starting bid of £14.99 (incredibly no other bidders!!!)

If you like my vintage M&S polka dots, how about this similar pussy bow blouse from Boohoo?

Boohoo via ASOS, £20.00
Or how about this blouse by Angel Eye, available at Next.

Angel Eye via Next, £36
Alternatively what about this flounced blouse/top from H&M to wear with jeans or a pair of wide, black trousers for an evening occasion?

H&M £34.99
Aside from tops, there are lots of polka dot dresses, jumpsuits and even trousers to choose from right now (see shopping ideas below).
Obviously I already have a black dress with polka dots, otherwise I would have definitely purchased this dress from H&M. It is super stretchy – providing a lovely flattering shape – and even has pockets!

H&M £24.99
