Hey beach-goers!
This handy packing list for the beach should save you some time and energy. Remembering what to bring every time you rush off to the beach when the sun comes out can be difficult! That is why I decided to create this handy packing list. Let’s face it, you need quite a few items and when you’re in a rush, it is probable you will forget something. A fantastic idea would be to pack the night before but either way, this handy packing list will have you covered!
Here is what you need for the perfect day out at the beach –
- Your swimwear and sunglasses. Very important. Nothing worse than arriving at the beach only to realise you can’t get in the water or even sunbathe properly if you forget your swimwear. Pack this first.
- A towel. No use going swimming in the sea without having a nice warm towel to dry yourself is there?
- A picnic blanket or beach towel. You will want a large towel or picnic blanket to sit on and since it will be covered in sand, it is prob best to have a separate towel for drying. Up to you!
- A beach bag or large bag you don’t mind getting sand on and in (most likely). A decent size to hold everything including your towel is best.
- A water bottle. It gets really hot and you are going to need one. Even if you plan on drinking other beverages. Nothing quenches your thirst quite like water.
- Sun cream lotion. Even if you apply your SPF before going to the beach you will need to re-apply it regularly if you are not in the shade. Very important.
- A change of underwear and perhaps a tee-shirt and shorts to change into. Stuff gets wet and covered sand so it’s nice to have a fresh change of clothes leaving.
- Some cash. Don’t bother bringing a wallet unless you have to. You will probably be paranoid about getting robbed, which can happen. Leave your wallet somewhere safe like hidden in the car.
- Snacks. If you plan on staying a while and don’t want to fork out for beachside grub, then just bring some snacks like crisps, biscuits or fruit. Whatever you wanna eat just buy in advance.
- Beach toys such as blow-up floats, frisbees, beach ball, bucket and spades. Once they have no restrictions, just double check. Pretty sure the bucket n spade passes!
- Insect repellent. If you tend to get bitten by insects then be sure and bring your citronella spray. You don’t wanna get covered in bites no matter what!
- Camera. If you plan on getting some cool photos of your day out you will be glad you brought it. Don’t go lugging your DLSR, just something that fits in a pocket.
- A cover-up like a shawl or sarong in case there is a cool breeze. They look great too so if you wanna head on to a bar or dinner after, you will be sorted.
- Deodorant. It gets hot and sweaty sometimes. Best to have a deodorant just in case. Fresh as a daisy after.
- Flip-flops or slide-on sandals. The last thing you want is trainers, high-heels or any other form of shoe if at all avoidable. Sand gets really hot!
If you are heading to the beach with kids – you need a whole bunch of other stuff!
Here goes, depending on the age :
Baby –
Factor 50 SPF
Sun hat
Nappies (3 or 4 just in case!)
Nappy bags and wet wipes
Portable changing mat of some sort
Bibs and bottles (if not breastfeeding)
Baby milk measured in a container
Baby puree food sachets or fresh in a container
Baby snacks
Change of clothes
Baby swimming nappies (optional)
Baby swimwear (optional)
Beach toys
Water in a sippy cup
Kids age 3 +
Swimwear
A towel
Beach toys
Snacks
Water/juice
Plasters/bandaids just in case
Wet wipes
Change of clothes (easy to throw on in a hurry!)
I am always sure to bring tissue and wet wipes to the beach because often the public toilets run out and don’t get around to replacing them so always a good idea. Have a check where the public toilets are located when you arrive. Especially with children! You may want to park yourself within a short distance.
Optional things to bring would be –
- A good book
- A phone
- An MP3
- Headphones
- Hair ties (if you have longer hair, for swimming)
- A plastic bag for wet clothes
- After sun (in case you get sun burn)
- An umbrella/parasol to keep you in the shade
- A foldable deck chair if you prefer to sit up
- A cooler bin for cold drinks or ice pops
- A sun tent for small babies or toddlers
- Magazines or newspapers for sunbathing
- A flask to keep your drink cool
- A sun hat to keep the sun out of your eyes
