Since switching to natural hair treatments my hair has improved immensely. Here are my homemade hair treatments for luscious locks. Easy to make and cheap. Best of all, having natural ingredients, they won’t strip your hair of the natural oils like some chemical-laden products on the market do. I am only realising now that pretty much all of the hair products available in the supermarket have a ridiculous amount of unknown chemicals in them.
I have been trying to find some with natural ingredients but haven’t had any luck so far. That is why I’m sticking with the homemade hair treatments. I honestly think my hair is way better off for it! The only chemical product I use in my hair is a hair dye every 8 weeks or so but I hate dying my hair as it really damages it noticeably. I am seriously considering going back to using henna as a dye, even though it is messy and difficult to apply. It gives the hair a beautiful shine. Anyway, if you dye your hair with chemicals, it is a good idea to do a homemade hair treatment afterwards to help replenish the oils.
HOT OIL TREATMENT –
This treatment is suitable for all hair types. It conditions and vitalises the hair giving it a lovely shine and soft feel.
1 tsp of olive oil
1 tsp jojoba oil
1 tsp solid coconut oil
Use this treatment to damp hair before washing for best results.
Heat the oils together in the microwave for around 20 seconds.
Apply warm, not hot with your fingertips and massage it into the scalp well.
Coat the hair from root to tips and wrap in cling film (optional-keeps the heat in) and a towel.
Leave in for 20-30 mins.
Apply a sulphate free shampoo (natural ingredients are best) before washing and lather it up well.
Wash it out and rinse well. Style your hair as usual.
Repeat once or twice a month for luscious locks!
Homemade Protein Coconut Conditioner –
1 tsp coconut oil
3-4 tbsp coconut milk
1 egg yolk
A clean empty squeezable bottle.
Melt the coconut oil for around 20 seconds in the microwave.
Whisk the coconut oil and egg together until frothy.
Add in the coconut milk and mix well.
Pour the contents into the bottle.
This should keep for 6 weeks but you will most likely use it up in 1 or 2 applications.
Apply to damp hair and massage it into the scalp like a shampoo.
Leave it in for 5 mins or so and rinse it out with warm water.
Give a blast of cool water at the end for extra shine and to close the hair cuticles.
Eggs are full of protein, vitamins and minerals so great for your hair.
Coconut is nourishing and brilliant for your scalp, especially if it is dry.
This conditioner is perfect for damaged hair as it strengthens and moisturises.
For healthy and revitalised luscious locks!
Hair Clarifying Treatment –
2 tbsp of baking soda
2 tbsp of water
2 drops of clary sage essential oil
Mix together the baking soda and water to form a paste.
Add in the essential oil and mix well.
Apply to damp hair and work it into the scalp.
Apply from root to tips.
Use as a clarifying hair treatment whenever your hair needs it.
Ultimate Hair Shine Treatment –
If you want sleek and shiny hair, this is my fave shine enhancer and so simple!
1 part ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar)
2 parts water
A clean spray bottle
Wet your hair and spray the mixture over the hair.
It smells pretty gross but it is so worth it!
Shampoo it out with a sulphate-free shampoo (preferably natural)
Condition as normal.
This gets rid of the smell which is quite potent so don’t worry, your hair won’t smell of it after!
Prepare to shine like never before!
So those are my best homemade hair treatments for luscious locks. Let me know if you try them and tell us what you think!
