Boots – The New Summer Footwear

By Claire from

Once upon a time, I would have relegated boots to the back of my wardrobe until Autumn/Winter.

The change in our British climate – sadly, long gone are those long hazy summers we remember from childhood – means that boots are now acceptable, and often practical, summer footwear!

And short, ankle-length boots contrast so well with a tanned leg and a flirty midi hem!

The midi length skirt or dress that has become a welcome mainstay in our wardrobe looks incredibly sassy with an ankle boot. As do most cropped length trousers; be they jeans, culottes or a tailored pencil/cigarette style – just make sure a good peek of flesh can be seen between the the hem and the the boot.

I recently purchased a pair of white leather ankle boots from the Next sale. A bargain at £22! I love wearing these with jeans or a midi dress.

Let’s face it, our summer dresses are not currently getting much wear so pop on a jacket and an ankle boot to protect against the chill, otherwise they may not see the light of day until next May/June!!!

Here’s my pick of boots in lighter hues which still have an air of Summer about them. They will brilliantly accessorise a floaty, floral midi dress, or white / beige culottes, your trusty pleated midi skirt or cropped jeans…

H&M £29.99

Or for more of a bolder boot that will take you well into the A/W season, here’s a selection that will team perfectly with darker florals, black or navy culottes or a metallic midi skirt and of course cropped jeans…

A note of advice… when choosing boots to wear with your midi dress, be careful not to choose a style that draws attention to the widest point in your leg as this is not a good look. Unless you have stick thin legs, the boot should sit at slimmest part of your lower calf, or at your ankle.

So I hope I’ve inspired you to keep wearing those floaty summer dresses, even though the skies my be grey… just pair with an ankle boot and your favourite jacket or pull on a sweatshirt or chunky jumper over the top (another current layering trend).

Are you already wearing ankle boots this Summer or are you tempted with any of the above?
