Curly Hair Care Wonder Products

If you have naturally curly hair like me, you are probably using various products to tame your mane. It is high maintenance at best and can be a real struggle to keep those curls looking sleek and frizz-free.

I have been trying to find the right products for years and I think I have finally found some that actually work!

WOOHOO! Its about time after all my trial and errors along the way.

I even resorted to straightening my hair just to avoid the annoyance of taming my unruly curls at one point.

That only made my hair dry, broken and frizzy so my first and foremost advice is to ditch the heat styling pronto.

And don’t look back. Ever!

It has taken me a good 6 months to undo the damage from heat styling my poor curls.

Anyway, after all my hairs trials and tribulations, it has come out shining.

My curls are in top shape and I am delighted with my hair at long last.

It is so great to finally say that as it has been a long time coming.

Righto so lets cut to the chase here and I will show you the products I’m using that brought my curls bouncing back!

Keratin 3 min mask

No. 1 Daily Defense Keratin 3 minute mask. I loved this from the moment I first used it. It really strengthened and defined my curls and noticeably so within only one use. You leave it in for 3 minutes and hey presto, it does its magic. Im using it once or twice a week now when my hair needs it. It is very reasonably priced. I paid less than 5 quid in the chemist for a tub. Its not a really big tub so I think its fairly priced. You apply it to your wet hair after shampoo or without shampoo depending on whether you use shampoo. Use a good amount and go from root to tip distributing evenly. I also use a wide tooth comb in the shower to rid any tangles and coat the hair properly. It is a good idea to get a wide tooth comb for curly hair by the way. Standard brushes are no good for curly hair. Also only brush your hair in the shower or bath while its wet so not to damage your natural curls. The keratin strengthens and hydrates the hair. Great product.

No 2. Christophe Robin Cleansing Volumising Paste. This one really helps give your curls bounce and better definition. I have almost ringlet style curls but they lost their bounce and became a bit lifeless for a while. This product really helped with volumising too. Even though my hair is thick, is is heavy and leaves the top part a bit lank sometimes. This one made it fuller at the top and generally bouncy and light. The first time I used it it felt a bit drying and made my hair a little frizzy but when I used the proper conditioner to compliment it, I loved the result. Everyone kept remarking on how beautiful my curls looked. I was very impressed with the definition it gave me. Fab product. I got a sample pot in the Lookfantastic Box.

Keratin shampoo

No. 3 Brazilian Keratin Therapy Shampoo. This shampoo claims to strengthen and soften while helping to smooth the cuticle. The shampoo is made with Brazilian keratin and coconut oil which really nourish the hair. It is best for curly or wavy hair and it makes curls more manageable over time. It is meant for relaxing the curls so if you prefer your hair tamed then this may be the product for you. My hair is quite long now but it took ages to grow (as curly hair does) but when it was short it was practically impossible to tame. It was always flouncing out at the sides and I looked like Crusty the Clown haha. Consistent use of the keratin really helped to smooth and add a bit of weight to it. I noticed a shine with this shampoo and I still use it regularly if my hair is unmanageable. I try to keep shampooing to a minimum these days but rather condition my hair every day. I probably only shampoo once a week at the most. I know when I need to shampoo but the longer you leave it the longer your hair will clean itself and the better for your hair. The oils get stripped by shampoo and hair produces less natural oil due to this. Just a tip.

Hask argan conditioner

No. 4 is Hask Agran Oil Repairing Conditioner. It is sulphate and paraben free with no drying alcohol, gluten or artificial colors so its kind to your hair and protects it. It penetrates the hair shaft and detangles while softening. It gives a gorgeous shine and helps with breakage. This is great for damaged hair. It really nourishes your curls and keeps them in place. Smells lovely, like orange blossoms. It is applied after shampoo or when the hair is wet but with excess water removed and left in for 1-2 minutes. Your hair feels healthy and curls feel light and airy after using this. I always recommend using a microfiber or muslin hair towel. Once I have used the wide tooth comb for curls to brush my hair, I roll it up into my hair towel and leave it for around 10 minutes. I don’t leave it on too long as its just to remove the excess moisture and then I naturally dry it. I never use heat styling products including hair driers. I air dry it and scrunch it up if I want to add body.

Kera cream

No. 5 is my new found fave taming product, Kera Science Glossy Curl. Believe me when I tell you I have tried so so many styling creams, serums, sprays and lotions over the years! I have been sadly disappointed time and time again. I got tired of spending money on things that were just left in the bathroom cupboard. I was losing hope to be honest but I kept soldiering on for the sake of nice curls. Well I was chuffed to finally find a product that doesn’t cost the earth but gives me tamed locks. It is perfect for styling and de-frizzing in general. It defines and tames. I recommend this for days or night out. I use it a lot but not every day. It isn’t supposed to nourish or enhance your hair. It is merely a styling product but its a great one and it really works. Yippeee!!!!

Coconut oil

No. 6 is coconut oil. I love using it as a hair mask when my hair gets dry. The ends are particularly prone to dryness so it works a dream. I heat up some coconut oil in a bowl in the microwave for around 10-20 seconds and apply warmed to the dry hair from the root to tips. I comb it through with my fingers and then sometimes brush it through with a wide tooth comb. I leave that in for an hour or more. Then I wash it out with my keratin shampoo. No need for a conditioner afterwards but I  do use the serum when wet.

No. 7 Last but not least is pure organic Argan Oil. It tames, gives a stunning shine and also nourishes your hair into the bargain. It can be used on wet, damp or dry hair and is therefore a hugely versatile product. It is genuinely handy and you can pop a bottle of it in your bag for use on the go. Brilliant for using on the dreaded morning hair if you’re in a rush out. Tames frizz like a boss without looking greasy. You only need a tiny amount since a little goes a long way and its reasonably priced so win win win!

Anyway those are my curly hair care wonder products. I hope they work as well for you as they do for me. Let me know how it goes for you if you do try any of these. I love hearing your feedback!

Best of luck with your curls x

Thanks so so much for this! My hair is frizzy with a tendancy to curl and have decided I need to embrace the curliness more! Can you tell me where you get them? I recognize the Keratin from Boots and the Argan from Pennys, but what about the rest? Again, great post!:)
