Tried and Tested Makeup Primers

tried-tested-makeup-primers

There are a lot of primers on the market today and it is so hard to choose. I personally don’t like spending a fortune, especially if I haven’t even tried a sample a few times. My skin gets very oily during summer from the heat so I need a good quality primer to keep my makeup in place. I also love the nice application and flawless makeup finish I get with a primer.

Here are my tried and tested primers and all of them are reasonably priced. I will say it is worth spending a bit more if a primer is absolutely outstanding but if you are on a budget there are some great high street options.

Loreal nude magic blur cream primer

1 L’Oreal Nude Magic Blur Cream. So this can be worn alone or as a primer and it has universal shade. It has a trademarked Micro-blur technology which smooths the skins appearance. It makes pores less visible and from a test on 51 women, 86% of those noticed within 5 seconds, less visible pores and irregularities. I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately I didn’t love it at all. It had a bit of a filmy residue which didn’t work well under makeup.

I didn’t really notice much of a reduction in the appearance of any red marks on my skin but it did seem to make my pores appear smaller. I wouldn’t purchase again.

Loreal revitalift magic blur primer

2. L’Oreal Revitalift Magic Blur. This is an instant skin smoother and I happened to get a sample of it free in a magazine a while back. When I tried it I was really impressed with the results. It seemed to glide effortlessly onto the skin, leaving a lovely velvety finish. It blurred any fine lines and also hid any imperfections quite well. I decided to buy a tube of it as I loved it. I use this some days when I don’t want to wear makeup and it gives a decent camouflage for any redness. It works well as a makeup primer too. I am on my 3rd tube now so needless to say its a keeper!

PS Pro magnifying makeup primer

3. PS Pro Mattifying primer by Primark/Penneys. Prep and perfect for oily and normal/combination skin. I have to say I was surprised at the high quality of this product. It is cheap and you only need a small amount. It has a lovely consistency, is easy to apply and works amazingly. I have to say this is one of my all time favourites. Never lets me down. Makeup always looks better once I have used this primer beforehand. It always helps to keep the oiliness at bay on hot days too.

This Works makeup primer

4. This Works In Transit Camera Closeup Primer. So this primer came in the Look Fantastic Box recently. It can be used as a mask, moisturiser and primer in one. To be honest, that just sounds weird, a mask/moisturiser doubling up as a primer. I disliked the feel of this on my skin, although it smells lovely. I am on the fence with it. It was ok. Nothing special but not the worst. It was a bit mediocre.

Cargo HD eyeshadow primer

5. Cargo HD Picture Perfect Eyeshadow Primer. My eyelids tend to get oily in hot weather so I got this and it really works well. I had never thought of using an eyeshadow primer but I noticed the difference straight away when I applied the eyeshadow. It looks way more pigmented and defined, looking more like the colour in the palette. It helped the eyeshadow to stay put and not wear off easily throughout the day. I really liked this one.

Clarins beauty flash balm makeup primer

6. Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. I decided to go for this one even though it is a fairly expensive choice. I had heard so many rave reviews I just had to give it a go. I haven’t heard much about it in the media lately but I 100% recommend it. It is my absolute fave tried and tested primer of all time. It is a cut above the rest. Worth every penny. It gives a perfect dewy, healthy glow. You apply the makeup immediately after this and the finish is outstanding. I cannot recommend this stuff enough. If I could give it 11 out of 10 I would. Best primer ever!

All tried and tested makeup primers

So those are my tried and tested makeup primers. I hope you can take some pointers from the above tried and tested and find one which is ideal for you. I do hate wasting money and indeed products so that is why I like to share my results with you. You can’t go wrong with the Clarins in my eyes but the PS Pro and Revitalift Magic Blur are a close second place.

Stay tuned for more tried and tested product reviews!
