As promised last week, here is my cocktail list with a twist! Following up on my post about How to Throw a kickass cocktail party, I have compiled a list of some of my favourite and most popular cocktails from my bar working days. These ones were always a big hit and not your average ones! Hope you enjoy…
Caramel Nut – Nutty ice cream cocktail
Makes 2:
INGREDIENTS – 30ml Butter scotch
60ml Creme de cacao
4 scoops of softened and mashed vanilla ice-cream
Chocolate/caramel syrup for the topping or around the inside of the glass
Chopped nuts to garnish
DIRECTIONS – Pour all ingredients into a shaker
Shake well and pour into tumbler or martini glasses
Sprinkle chopped nuts and chocolate syrup to garnish
Frozen Matador – Crushed ice tequila blend
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 45 ml Tequila
Lime juice
1 cup pineapple juice
Crushed ice
Tumbler glass
A twist of lime peel
DIRECTIONS – Pour the crushed ice into a cocktail shaker.
Pour the rest of the ingredients in and shake well.
Garnish with a twist of lime.

Grasshopper – Minty Creamy Goodness
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 2 oz fresh cream
2 oz Creme de Menthe
2 oz Creme de cacao (white)
Chocolate shavings
DIRECTIONS – Pour ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice
Shake well, then strain into 2 martini glasses
Garnish with a sprig of mint and chocolate shavings

The Caipirinha – A Brazilian classic similar to a Mojito with a twist
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 4 key limes halved and seeded / 2 medium juicy limes cut into eight
2oz Cachaça
2 tsp white sugar
Ice
Cocktail shaker
A tumbler glass
DIRECTIONS – Put the limes and sugar in the shaker and muddle well.
Pour in the ice and Cachaça
Shake in the shaker and pour into the tumbler
Add a twist of lime to garnish

The Screaming Orgasm – A creamy sweet treat concoction
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 1oz coffee liqueur
1 oz Irish cream liqueur
1 oz Amaretto
Heavy cream
DIRECTIONS – Add the alcohol and cream to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well
Strain into a martini glass
Garnish with some chocolate

Da Vinci Code – An unexpected taste
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 15ml Frangelico
30ml white rum
30ml orange juice
Dash of passion fruit syrup
Passion fruit to garnish
DIRECTIONS – Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker of ice
Mix well and strain into a small glass with ice
Top with a spoonful of passionfruit

Illusion – a tropical dream cocktail
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 15ml Midori
15ml vodka
15ml Triple sec
Lime juice
Pineapple juice
Fruit to garnish
DIRECTIONS – Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice
Mix well and pour into a tall glass with ice.
Garnish with fruit such as pineapple or maraschino cherry

Copa Verde Shots (Green Cups) by Dale DeGroff (mixologist)
Makes 8:
INGREDIENTS – Tequila
1 tsp fresh, roughly chopped thyme
Lime juice (4oz)
2 tsp Kosher salt
8oz silver tequila
4oz water
4oz light agave syrup
1 ripe avocado peeled
Ice
A blender
Shot glasses
A cocktail shaker
DIRECTIONS – Mix thyme and salt in a bowl
Apply agave syrup to the rims of the shot glasses with your finger.
Dip the rims of the glasses in the thyme and salt mixture.
Put all the rest of the ingredients in the blender and blend til smooth.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice up to half way and pour in the same amount of mixture.
Shake well to chill (30seconds) and strain the mixture into the shot glasses.
Repeat with rest of the ingredients.

Tequila Fresa – a fruity spice kick
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 45ml Tequila
15ml strawberry liqueur
10ml fresh lime juice
Dash of bitters
Ice in a tumbler
Strawberries to garnish
DIRECTIONS – Add the liquids to a cocktail shaker with ice
Mix well, then strain into a tumbler glass with ice and strawberry slices
Garnish with strawberries

Zombie – a tasty tropical cocktail
Makes 1:
INGREDIENTS – 30ml golden rum
15ml white rum
75ml pineapple juice
15ml lime juice
60ml grapefruit juice
1tsp castor sugar
Mint leaves to garnish
DIRECTIONS – Shake all liquids and sugar in a shaker with ice.
Strain into a highball with ice and garnish with with mint and/or fruit.

Snickers Shot – Yumminess in a glass
INGREDIENTS – 1/3 shot Kahlua
1/3 Frangelico
1/3 Baileys to top
Sprinkles of grated chocolate to top
DIRECTIONS – Use the back of a teaspoon rested on the edge of the shot glass to slowly and gently pour the baileys onto the top.
Sprinkle on the grated chocolate
Oreo Cookie Shot – an unexpected experience!
INGREDIENTS – One half shot of Frangelico
One half shot of Lime cordial
A dash of cracked black pepper
DIRECTIONS – Have the 2 shot glasses lined up and a dash of pepper on back of hand as you would tequila salt.
Pour the Frangelico shot into your mouth but don’t swallow.
Now pour the lime cordial in and swish them around in your mouth.
Swallow the shot and follow by licking the cracked pepper off your hand.
Tastes like Oreo’s!!!
Hope you have fun making and trying the drinks from this cocktail list with a twist! They are unusual cocktail recipes but so so good! Enjoy sensibly!
