China Incorporate Pedestrian Smartphone Lane

In a bid to end public irritation and ease the flow of foot traffic, China have incorporated pedestrian smartphone lanes to make life easier for everyone. The growing number of ‘phone zombies’ on the streets is causing a major concern, and rightly so.

“Please don’t look down for the rest of your life” is one quote plastered on a wall nearby a designated pedestrian smartphone lane.

Sadly, the epidemic is a sign of the times and China are taking action. The Yanta Road in Xi’an have incorporated pedestrian smartphone lanes and people are relieved.

Phubbers are becoming less and less concerned with the people around them and more engrossed in their phones by the day. Click To Tweet

The public outcry that caused China to incorporate the pedestrian smartphone lane was one we are probably all familiar with. How annoying is it to be stuck behind someone who clearly has no regard for who is behind them or may be in a hurry? I have often been stuck behind people with no respect for the flow of traffic around them and it is irritating. I have no problem with people who window shop or prefer to stroll than walk but texters and smartphone gazers are a whole other story. It is a kind of hypnotic state that literally turns them into walking zombies and can result in accidents.

I understand that in certain circumstances people cannot be rushed, but for the simple reason of people texting or browsing online is another story. Phubbers are in some way being given encouragement to use their phones while walking though, so I can imagine this idea has repercussions. I mean, wouldn’t they bump into each other?! It can’t be that safe, as your are still basically walking blind. I guess they have weighed up the pros and cons anyway.

Obviously the Chinese community have voiced their opinion on the matter. China seem to be a very technology-forward leading nation with a giant population so no doubt, this is a real problem.

At least they are embracing the funny side, with quotes and signs referring to the paths such as –

Have you experienced any smartphone zombies yourself? Do you think these lanes will help move things along in a more orderly fashion?

Or do you think this is a load of old nonsense which only encourages excess phone usage after work and in transit?
