Royal Locks Curly Hair Products Review

royal-locks-product-review

I was lucky to be gifted some Royal Locks curly hair products in exchange for an honest review. I love trying out new products for my unruly and frizz-prone curls. So here is my Royal Locks curly hair products review –

My lovely products arrived quickly in the post and they are a generous size. I received the Pro Curl Cream with Argan oil, the Party Curl Cocktail Curl Boosting Spray and Dream Cream with Argan oil.

I had read a lot of reviews online about the brand and most were very positive so I was really keen to try them immediately. I tried out the Party Curl Cocktail Curl Boosting Spray straight away to refresh my limp and frizzy curls. First thing I noticed was the lovely scent. It reminded me of that hairdresser smell so that was nice. I shook the bottle as directed and sprayed it onto my curls then scrunched. It looked very promising and I was happy to see the frizz calmed and some nice definition. My first impression was great!

ROYAL LOCKS PARTY CURL SPRAY

My style seemed to hold for the rest of the evening and I just noticed some halo frizz before bed. To be honest it is really hard for me to avoid frizz no matter what product I use so I wasn’t deterred by it. I decided I would try one of the other products after washing my curls the next morning.

The next morning I washed my hair as normal and did my usual routine but decided to forgo the styling products I normally use after washing. I used the Royal Locks Pro Curl Cream Gel instead. I scrunched my hair while wet and blotted the ends then raked the product through the hair and scrunched again.

ROYAL LOCKS PRO CURL STYLING GEL

My hair takes ages to dry so I just went about my business for the next hour or so. The Royal Locks seemed to give bounce and definition and I noticed less frizz than usual so that was a plus. I decided to go ahead and use the Party Curl Cocktail curl boosting spray again. It feels lovely, like a serum almost, very light and with a nice scent.

Argan oil is a product I use often and it is especially good for my curly hair. I normally take a small amount of pure Argan oil in my palms and apply using the praying hands technique. It helps calm frizz and gives a beautiful shine. It can sometimes make the hair oily though so I only use it in the days before washing. The products don’t seem to leave an oily residue so that is great.

The packaging is nice and slick, with black shiny bottles and easy to use pumps or spray bottle. There is very little waste and they are easy to use so thumbs up to that. Sometimes I find products are a bit fiddly, like I have 4/5 tubs of different masks and conditioners in the shower that are annoying to use to be honest.

The products will keep longer if in an airtight container like these and also, there is less wastage. I could easily re-use these bottles for water spray and touch-ups as well as making my own products or even transferring products from tubs to the easier-to-use pump bottles. Great idea!

One thing I should mention is that there are silicones in these products. I know a lot of curly girls who won’t use silicones in hair care. If you are following the Curly Girl method they may not be for you. However, for others, silicones can have a good effect on the hair. It locks in moisture and can actually prevent frizz that way. So if you aren’t afraid of silicones, these are worth a shot.

If you twist your curls then use the Pro Curl Cream Gel when wet, after blot drying and scrunching. You can use the Party Curl Cocktail spray as a refresher spray for boosting your curls and giving extra bounce.

Royal Locks are a cruelty free brand so no testing on animals. They are available on the Royal Locks official site and Amazon, where you can read more reviews. They are a popular brand and many curly-haired girls have been singing their praises.

Next wash day, I used my usual conditioner and scrunched my hair with a teeshirt to avoid breakage and lock in moisture. My hair had been feeling a little dry and brittle. I followed up with the Royal Locks Dream Cream. This product is for definition and shine. It can also be used on dry hair.

ROYAL LOCKS DREAM CREAM

I let that dry for an hour or so and scrunched it again, adding a little more product to smooth any frizzy bits. My hair looked good and smelled lovely all day. It left my hair feeling soft and shiny. No crunchiness, just light and bouncy coils. Yay!

I touched it up with some of the Party Curl Cocktail for a boost a couple of times so it was handy to have that in my bag. Royal Locks Dream Cream is a keeper for sure.

I found that I would wash my hair the next day if I applied a lot of product the day before. If my hair ever feels overloaded with product, I use an apple cider vinegar wash, 1/3 ACV, 2/3 water and a teaspoon of baking soda in a jug. I bring it in the shower and pour the jug over my head to rinse away any build-up. I then follow with my conditioner. I probably do this once a month anyway as it clarifies the hair.

I wouldn’t do the ACV rinse more than once a month though, so as not to strip the hair of natural oils. I would happily use Royal Locks hair products for days/nights out as it seems to keep hair in place and is great for touch-ups.

Thanks for reading my Royal Locks curly hair products review and I will be back with more curly hair product reviews soon.
